The Cleveland Indians Have Done The Inevitable

The Cleveland Indians have fired manager Eric Wedge.

The Indians were one game away from the World Series in 2007. The Indians fell out of contention in 2008, and then traded away AL Cy Young Award Winner C.C. Sabathia.

In 2009,the Cleveland Indians were the runaway favorite for the AL Central with the new additions of Mark DeRosa and Kerry Wood, but the Indians fell out of contnetion again in 2009, and traded away AL Cy Young Award Winner Cliff Lee.

Indians fans have been calling for the firing of Wedge for a while now.

Cubs Trail Indians 7-0, Enjoy Wild 8-7 Comeback Win

Mark De Rosa and Kerry Wood were two fan favorites at Wrigley.

Mark De Rosa singled home Cleveland's seventh run. Kerry Wood came on in the ninth after the Cubs cut managd to cut the defecit to 7-6. Kerry Wood then came on to try and stop the bleeding, but then he gave up a game tying homerun to Derrek Lee, Derrek's second homerun of the game.

In the bottom of the tenth inning, Ryan Theriot lined a base hit into right center field to score Alfonso Soriano,and the Cubs comeback for the second straight day and win a barnburner of a baseball game 8-7.

2009 MLB Preview: AL Central

The Cleveland Indians have some new faces. Will that help them win the AL Central?

The AL Central in 2008 was home to one of the greatest divisional races in recent memory. The White Sox and Twins ended up playing 163 regular season games to decide who would win the AL Central, which the White Sox won 1-0 on a Jim Thome monster homerun.

What is in store for 2009? Let's have a look.

Cleveland Indians

The Cleveland Indians have Baseball's best Centerfielder, Grady Sizemore, and Travis Hafner can still hit the ball a mile. The Indians acquired two great players via a trade and I think these two will make a huge difference right away. The first huge addition: Kerry Wood. He comes over from the Chicago Cubs, and I think he instantly upgrades Cleveland's bullpen. He will come in and get saves right away for this team. The second player is Mark DeRosa. He also comes over from the Cubs. When he was in Chicago, he played all over the field. In Cleveland, it looks like he will be set to play third base. The Indians rotation is anchored by last season's AL Cy Young award winner, Cliff Lee. Everyone that follows him in the rotation is a questionmark, however. If the 2 thru 5 guys can pitch like they're capable of, the Indians rotation will be a pleasant surprise this season.

Chicago White Sox

The Chicago White Sox are the defending division champions. The White Sox rotation is anchored by Mark Buehrle, who is still one of the American league's best pitchers. John Danks and Gavin Floyd are capable, young starters. Jose Contreras will work to beat a lineup the slowest way possible, and Bartolo Colon begins this season with a bit of a chip on his shoulder after getting released from the Angels.

Offensively, the White Sox should not strugle in that department. The White Sox will finally get to see a whole full season of Josh Fields, after they released Joe Crede, Alexi Ramirez will continue to impress, as his stroke is almost exactly like Alfonso Soriano's. Chris Getz will be the new second baseman, and Dewayne Wise will play Center Field. Carlos Quentin should be back in full swing this season, and let's not forget about Jermaine Dye in right field. Paul Konerko will play First base, and Jim Thome will launch some homeruns from the Designated Hitter spot.
Detroit Tigers

Times are tough for all things Detroit right now, and that includes the Tigers. The Tigers suprisingly released Gary Sheffield after he wasn't cutting it, and if they fall out of contention early, more may be next. The Tigers are still waiting for Joel Zumaya to get healthy, and for Dontrelle Willis to get back to The D-Train of old.

The Bright spots for Detroit: Curtis Granderson is still one of baseball's best leadoff men. Major League scouts are raving over pitcher Rick Porcello, and Miguel Cabrera is forecasted to have a big season this year.

Expect The Tigers to fight to make it above .500 this season, which sounds a whole lot like what they did last season.

Minnesota Twins


This is the final season that the Minnesota Twins will play inside the Metrodome. The Twins move into the outdoors when they play in Target Field. Francisco Liriano appears to have his good stuff this Spring. He'll be the ace. Kevin Slowey and Glen Perkins are capable, and Nick Blackburn could really pitch fantasticly this season. Who will be Minnesota's Fifth Starter?

Offensively, the Twins will get a lot of offense from Justin Morneau. Joe Crede willplay Third base, as he comes over from the Chicago White Sox. Denard Span could have a breakout season this year.

Expect the White Sox and Twins to slug it out for the AL Central title.
Kansas City Royals

This is The Kansas City Royals 40th anniversary. Their rotation is anchored by Gil Meche, followed by Zach Greinke, Kyle Davies was a surprise this season. Was Sidney Ponson just a World Baseball Classic Wonder? The Royals will find that out as he made a slot in the rotation. Horacio Ramirez rounds out the rotation.

The Royals are hoping that Alex Gordon has a much better season this year. Mike Jacobs becomes Kansas City's new first baseman, Mike Avilles will play short, and Alberto Callaspo will play second base.

Don't expect a surpise team out of Kansas City this season.

My Division Prjections:
1. CHICAGO WHITE SOX
They have the pitching, offense, and defense to repeat as division champions.
2. Minnesota Twins
Justin Morneau will be good, as usual, and their pitching looks good this season.
3.Cleveland Indians
Their offense will be there, but their pitching (outside of Cliff Lee) has questionmarks.
4. Detroit Tigers
Miguel Cabrera will have a good season, but the rest of the team will struggle.
5. Kansas City Royals.
They won't compete this year.

CC Sabathia To Start Both Yankees Openers

CC Sabathia will start the Yankees regular season opener and the opener at New Yankee Stadium.

Is anyone suprised by this? Of Course not.

J.J. Putz To Set Up for K-Rod

The bullpen may not be the Mets Achilles Heel anymore.

Just after the Mets signed their closer in Francisco Rodriguez, they traded for J.J Putz from the Seattle Mariners.

This was part of a three team, twelve player deal.

New York shipped reliever Aaron Heilman, outfielder Endy Chavez, left hander Jason Vargas and three minor leaguers to the Mariners for Putz, center fielder Jeremy Reed and reliever Sean Green.

Outfielder Franklin Gutierrez was sent from the Indians to Seattle. Cleveland got reliever Joe Smith from the Mets and 23-year-old second baseman Luis Valbuena from Seattle.

J.J Putz will pitch the eighth inning for the Mets, setting up for K-Rod in the ninth.

Kerry Wood Heading To That Other "Cursed" Franchise

Kerry Wood just left one "cursed" franchise to head to another.

The Cleveland Indians, who have the second longest title drought in Baseball history, appear to be closing in on a two year contract with closer Kerry Wood.

Although I was personally hoping to see Wood head back to his hometown area to play for the Rangers, Wood heading to the Indians is a good move. Cleveland does have Cliff Lee, the 2008 American League Cy Young Award Winner, and Grady Sizemore, Baseball's best Centerfielder. Also, if Matt La Porta comes up in 2009 and plays to his potential, the Cleveland Indians could be Baseball's Dark Horse for 2009.

That being said, I am going to miss Woody in Cubbie Blue.

Chicago Cubs Will Officially Play First Series At New Yankee Stadium

Before the New York Yankees play the Cleveland Indians in the 2009 MLB Season Opener, they will play an exhibition series in the New Yankee Stadium.

The Cubs will play the Yankees on Friday night April 3 and again the following afternoon.

The ballpark is scheduled for substantial completion by Feb. 17.

The Chicago Cubs are managed by Lou Pinella, who won two World Series Championships with the New York Yankees.

The Yankees open the season April 16th against the Cleveland Indians.

Cliff Lee Wins AL Cy Young Award

Cliff Lee was one of the few bright spots for the Cleveland Indians this season.

Cliff Lee was recognized for it today as he won the American League Cy Young Award.

Lee went a major league-best 22-3 this season with a 2.54 ERA. He received 24 of 28 first-place votes and 132 points in balloting by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.

Toronto ace Roy Halladay was a distant runner-up with four first-place votes and 71 points. Record-setting closer Francisco Rodriguez of the Los Angeles Angels finished third with 32 points.

Congrats to Cliff Lee on winning the AL Cy Young award.

Cubs May Play First Actual Game At New Yankee Stadium

The Chicago Cubs may play the first actual game at New Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees and Cubs are talking about playing an exhibition game or series the weekend before most teams open the regular season, on Monday, April 6.

The Cubs are the Yankees first choice, while other teams are still negotiating.

April 16th is the official coronation of New Yankee Stadium. The Yankees will play the Cleveland Indians.

Cardinals Trade Anthony Reyes to Indians: Indians Trade Casey Blake To Dodgers

The St. Louis Cardinals have traded away the starter from Game One of the 2006 World Series, Anthony Reyes.

Reyes was traded from the Cardinals to the Indians in exchange for minor league pitcher Luis Perdomo.

Reyes had split the season in between the minors starting rotation and the Majors Bullpen. Perdomo has yet to get to Triple A.

This was the second trade the Indians made, as they also traded Casey Blake to the Dodgers for switch-hitting catcher Carlos Santana and pitcher Jonathan Meloan.

MLB Preview: AL Central

Can Acquisitions Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis help Detroit clinch their first World Series Title since 1984?

Detroit Tigers fans still can't believe their incredibly good luck. Minnesota Twins fans can't believe how far they're team has fallen off the map with the loss of Johan Santana. White Sox fans hope the improved bullpen can help them win more games, and Royals fans are hoping Alex Gordon and Gil Meche can help lead Kansas City out of the cellar.

And then there's Cleveland, the winner of the AL Central last season. All forgotten. Indians fans like it this way. They hope this quiet team can surprise again.

DETROIT TIGERS
The Tigers in 2007 hoped to repeat their success from 2006 when they marched to the World Series. They may have failed to do that, but this team still made history last season. Comerica Park was abuzz on June 12th as Justin Verlander threw a no-hitter against the Milwaukee Brewers, winning the game 4-0. This was the first no-hitter by a Tiger since Jack Morris did it in 1984 and the first ever thrown at Comerica Park.
Curtis Granderson became only the second player in franchise history to have at least 30 doubles, 15 triples, 15 home runs, and 10 stolen bases in a single season. The other Tiger to accomplish this feat was Charlie Gehringer in 1930. Magglio Ordonez .363 batting average was the highest in Major League Baseball. He finished the season as the AL batting champion, and is the first Tiger player to accomplish the feat since Norm Cash in 1961.This Tigers team will get much better in 2008, primarily due to the addition of the final two members of the 2003 Florida Marlins that were with the team last season.

Pitching Wise, Justin Verlander is the ace of the rotation, but filling in at the number two spot will be former Marlins Ace Dontrelle Willis. Nate Robertson and Kenny Rogers will follow him, leaving the final spot to be won in Spring Training. This team has been improved tremenendously in all areas with Miguel Cabrera. The Tigers would be smart to sign both Cabrera and Willis long term. Curtis Granderson will continue to score runs from the lead off spot in any way imaginable. There will be a lot of homeruns for this team. On Paper, they're the World Series Champions right now. But we all know that games aren't won on paper. They're won on the field.

The expectations for Detroit are high. Let's see if they can be met.



CLEVELAND INDIANS
The most important thing for the Indians' future is to re-sign C.C. Sabathia. He collected his 1000th career strikeout on May 21st, on Ichiro Suzuki of the Seattle Mariners. He was also named to the American League All-Star team for the third time. On September 28, he became the youngest pitcher to record 100 career wins since Greg Maddux in 1993. On October 23, Sabathia won the Players Choice Award for Outstanding AL Pitcher.[2] His pitching performance led the Cleveland Indians to their first American League Central Division Championship since 2001, his rookie season. For his performance, he was awarded the 2007 American League Cy Young Award joining Gaylord Perry as the only two Cleveland Indians pitchers to ever win the award.

If Sabathia can't be resigned this season, expect both the Yankees and the Mets to lure big money to try to lure him to their side of New York.

Grady Sizemore and Travis Hafner will continue to slug balls out of Jacobs Field.

Fausto Carmona and Joe Borowski headlined a magnificent Indians bullpen in 2007, and the bullpen has added former Japanese Closer Masahide Kobayashi to the bullpen.

Cleveland will fight for the Wild Card Spot in 2008.

CHICAGO WHITE SOX
The 2007 White Sox started off the year in unbeleievable fashion, as Mark Buehrle threw a no-hitter against the Texas Rangers on April 18th. The Sox got a bad case of the injury bug down the stretch, but during that time, we got to see how well Chicago develops it's talent. Josh Fields played so well playing for the injured Joe Crede that the Sox are considering trading Crede. Mark Sweeney played well in the outfield and will be replaced with Nick Swisher, who would have gone to the North Side of Chicago if the Cubs weren't able to lure Kosuke Fukudome away from Japan. The White Sox made moves to improve their bullpen, which was not very good last season. Scott Linebrink and Octavio Dotel have been signed to help hold down the fort for Bobby Jenks in the ninth. Jenks was dynamite in 2007, retiring 41 straight batters in 2007.

The Sox have also improved in the infield. Danny Richar leads at the battle to man second base and the Sox acquired Gold Glove winner Orlando Cabrera by trading away Jon Garland. Let's not forget about Powerful Paul Konerko at First Base and Jim Thome at Designated Hitter.

Can Chicago contend in a crowded AL Central? The key will be their bullpen and defense keeping leads the starting pitching pitching and offense gives them.

KANSAS CITY ROYALS
The Royals are hoping to surprise in 2008. They lured Trey Hillman away from Japan to try and get this ballclub back on the right foot. They signed outfielder Jose Guillen to a three year contract, despite the fact that he will serve a 15 game suspension for perfromance-enhancing drugs.

Alex Gordon will only get better at third base, as will Ryan Shealy. Gold Glove Winner Mark Grudzielanek will be in betweeen both, manning second base. Gil Meche is the Royals Ace, and had a suprisingly good first season. Will be able to repeat it? I don't think so, simply because of how good the whole AL Central is.

In The Bullpen, watch out for Yasuhiko Yabuta.

MINNESOTA TWINS
The Twins had an unfair Free Agency Period. First, they lost Torii Hunter to Free Agency, then they lost Johan Santana in a trade. To "replace" Hunter, the Twins traded Matt Garza away for Delmon Young. To "replace" Santana, the Twins signed former Diamondback Orlando Hernandez. The Twins are also hoping Francisco Liriano can be healthy all season and catch that "lightning in a bottle" of a season in 2006 after missing the 2007 Season to recover from Tommy John Surgery.

The Boston Red Sox Have Won The American League Pennant!

Three years after ending its 86-year title drought, Boston completed another October comeback by overpowering the Cleveland Indians 11-2 Sunday night in Game 7 of the AL championship series.

Having rallied from a 3-1 deficit against Cleveland, the Red Sox now play the streaking Colorado Rockies starting Wednesday night in Boston.

This time, the Red Sox are bringing a bunch of guys who weren't around for the fun when they won it all in 2004.

"We've never been through this. This is on the biggest stage," said rookie second baseman Dustin Pedroia, who hit his first postseason homer and drove in five runs.

"We worked too hard all year long to have our season get cut short. Nobody wanted to go home, nobody wanted to say goodbye to everybody. So once we got that win in Cleveland, brought us back here, we started to believe."

Matsuzaka pitched five solid innings, and Okajima and Jonathan Papelbon each threw two scoreless innings in relief. Boston also got some help by a key blunder by an Indians base coach when Cleveland trailed just 3-2 with a chance to tie the game.


After digging out of a 3-0 hole against the Yankees in the '04 ALCS, the Red Sox needed three straight wins to advance this time. The Rockies, who have won 10 in a row and 21 of 22, will come back from a record eight days off.

Game One of the 2007 World Series starts on Wednesday.

In Game Five on Thursday Night, Josh Beckett, blocking out everything but Jason Varitek's target, dominated the Cleveland Indians for the second time and Manny Ramirez drove in the go-ahead run with a 390-foot single as the Red Sox stayed alive in the AL championship series with a 7-1 win Thursday night in Game 5.
Kevin Youkilis set the tone with a first-inning homer off C.C. Sabathia. The Red Sox, trailing 3-2, sent the best-of-seven series back to Fenway Park to continue a season that was on the brink of being canned for the cold New England winter.

The Red Sox - and Beckett - have done this before. And clearly, Ramirez & Co. cared.

"We weren't trying to win three games in one night," Youkilis said. "We were just going out there to play the game, go out there and fight and do whatever we had to do to win."

In 2004, Boston rallied from an 0-3 deficit to win the 2004 ALCS against the New York Yankees and went on to sweep the St. Louis Cardinals in four straight for its first World Series title since 1918.

The Joe Torre Era Is Over In The Bronx

Joe Torre will not manage the Yankees in 2008.

Joe Torre is out as manager of the New York Yankees, rejecting a substantial pay cut after the team failed to make it past the first round of the playoffs for the third straight year.

Torre turned down a $5 million, one-year contract Thursday — $2.5 million less than he made last season.

Rather than put up with the indignity of a salary slap coupled with a performance-based contract, the man who led the Yankees to playoff appearances in all 12 years he managed, walked.

Most Yankees fans could see this day coming.

After losing the first two playoff games to Cleveland, owner George Steinbrenner said he didn't think Torre would be asked back if the Yankees didn't advance.

The 67-year-old Torre, who took over the team to start the 1996 season, made his decision after traveling from New York to the team's spring training complex in Tampa, Fla., and meeting with Steinbrenner, the owner's sons and top executives for about an hour. He was accompanied by Cashman and chief operating officer Lonn Trost.

New York's offer included $3 million in bonuses if the Yankees reached next year's World Series and an $8 million option for 2009 that would have become guaranteed if New York won the AL pennant.

Torre just completed a $19.2 million, three-year contract.

The Bronx now really Is Burning! Joe Torre is Outta Here, and with it, many of his players who were fiercely loyal to him may be out as well. A-Rod, Pettite, Posada, all vital players to the Yankees season, may all not come back to Yankee Stadium next season. If that is the case, the last posteason game to ever be played at "The House That Ruth Built" was that game four loss to the Indians. The Yankees will not make the playoffs next season. If all of their free agents don't come back, There is no way they will.

Truth be told, though, could you blame Joe Torre for walking away? He was getting less money, and it was only for a single year. Add to that the fact that he gets treated like he has no idea what he is doing whenever they lose, and I can understand why he would walk away. It's unbelievable to me how badly Joe was treated in New York! The guy has four World Series Championships(1996,1998, 1999, 2000) and two more appearances in the Fall Classic (2001, 2003), but he still got treated like he had no idea what he was doing! Joe didn't want to get treated badly anymore. That's why he walked away.

Who could replace Joe Torre as Yankee Manager? Tony La Russa, Joe Girardi, and Don Mattingly have all been offered as possiblities to replace him.

Don't forget about Game five of the American League Championship Series tonight on Fox. Josh Beckett pitches for the Red Sox in a must win game for them. C.C. Sabathia is on the mound for the Inidans tonight, and if they win, Cleveland wins the American League Pennant and faces the Colorado Rockies in the World Series.

C.C. Sabathia will pitch the Indians into the World Series Thursday night with an Indians Victory.
Hang tight, Colorado Rockies. There's another team roaring through October.

And you just might see them in the World Series.
The Cleveland Indians, relying on a throwback pitcher who looks as if he stepped out of their 1948 team photo, moved one win from another crack at winning an elusive championship.

Pumping his arms with an old-school windup, Paul Byrd blanked Boston long enough and Casey Blake homered to start Cleveland's seven-run rampage in the fifth inning as the Indians beat the Red Sox 7-3 Tuesday night for a 3-1 lead in the AL championship series.

"We want to put them away here," Byrd said. "That's a great team over there. They can easily come back and win three. We're taking absolutely nothing for granted. We'll enjoy the win for now, but we want to put them away."

Just like those rockin'-and-rollin' Rockies, who are awaiting their next opponent, these Indians are soaring like a team of destiny.

Everything is falling Cleveland's way, and with a victory in Game 5 on Thursday night, the Indians will have another chance to bring this title-starved town something it hasn't seen since the Browns won it all in 1964.

The Indians, who knocked out the New York Yankees and their monstrous payroll in the first round of the playoffs, now have the free-spending Red Sox on the ropes. Even three straight homers couldn't rally Boston.

After a day off, the Indians will turn to ace C.C. Sabathia, their left-handed leader. Boston's Josh Beckett, who beat Cleveland in Game 1 at home, will try to send the series back to Fenway Park.

What A Great Monday Night!

Grady Sizemore put the Yankees in a hole they were never able to climb out of with his leadoff homerun.

What A Great Monday Night! We finally know who the Boston Red Sox will play in The American League Championship Series. The Cleveland Indians wrapped up the series, defeating the New York Yankees 6-4. Alex Rodriguez hit his first postseason homerun since Game Three of the 2004 American League Championship Series, but it wasn't enough. Congratulations to The Cleveland Indians, as they try to win their first World Series dince 1948, as they will play The Red Sox at Fenway Park for Game One On Thursday. We have a great pitching matchup in Game One of the American League Championship Series, as Josh Beckett gets the ball for The Red Sox opposed by C.C. Sabathia. Another great game Monday Night was the Dallas Cowboys-Buffalo Bills game. This was Buffalo's first appearance on Monday Night Football in 13 years, and Buffallo certainly made good use out of it, intercepting Tony Romo five times, including four times in the first half. However, Dallas battled back to make it a ballgame. If you went to bed early, you missed one heck of an ending to this game! i had the original 24 seconds of the game of the game on The Power Zone as of Yesterday (Tuesday), but that video has now been removed. Nick Folk kicked the game finning 53 yard field goal twice (it was waved off one for a time out) and Dallas stuns Buffalo to stay undefeated, 25-24.

The Arizona Diamondbacks and The Colorado Rockies will meet up in the National League Championship Series

Three solo home runs from Chris Young, Eric Byrnes, and Stephen Drew behind 6 innings pitched (1 run on 5 hits) from Liván Hernández, and 4 double plays turned on defense put Game Three out of reach for the Chicago Cubs who were swept out of the post-season by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

So, The Arizona Diamondbakcks and The Colorado Rockies are meeting in the National League Championship Series, which will begin on Thursday. Congratulations to the Arizona Diamondbacks. They've had a magnificent season, and they managed to sweep The Cubs in their house, Wrigley Field. Carlos Zambrano's next start will be opening day 2008, where the Same Old Chant of "Wait 'till Next Year" will be heard for the 100th time in Chicago.

Time for me for me to go off on the Cubs for a second.

Aramis Ramirez, Alfonso Soriano, and Derrek Lee. Where in the world was your plate disipline at? Did you leave it in Cincinnatti or something? My Goodness, every time you guys had runners in scoring position, you guys grounded into a double play, killing your chance to win. I'm not gonna fall for this again. If they manage to win the division next season, I'm not gonna take their season seriously until they get to the World Series. There was so much promise for their season, and now I remember something I should have remembered a long time ago: They're The Cubs. The Cubs continue to use that stupid excuse of "We're cursed by a billygoat" to explain why they have not won a World Series, and I'm sick of it. It's way too early to talk about the 2008 Baseball Season, particularly because the American League Championship Series has not been determined yet, although it may be by tonight, as Boston and Cleveland are both going for sweeps of Anaheim and New York.

Speaking of New York, Joe Torre is about to be fired as manager of the New York Yankees. He will either be fired or resign as Yankee Manager. New York is dead come game three, and even if they win tonight, they're still dead. George Steinbrenner may already be looking for a new manager of the Yankees. He just hasn't said it publicly yet.

Let's talk about their archrival, the Boston Red Sox. Congratulaions guys. You guys swept The Angels and you're about to face Cleveland in the American League Championship Series. Boston has been the best team in Baseball since day one of the 2007 Season. David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez may be about to bring home another World Series Pennant for the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox have the best rotation in Baseball, with Fireballer Josh Beckett, Wise Pitcher Curt Schilling, Japaneese Import Daisuke Mastuzaka, and knuckleballer Tim Wakefield (Wakefield had a bad back, so he was not on the Red Sox American League Divisional Series roster.)

There are my random thoughts and feelings on the Divisional Series of the Baseball Postseason so far.
