Matt Garza threw the first no-hitter in Tampa Bay history and the fifth in the major leagues this season, beating the Detroit Tigers 5-0 Monday night. Garza struck out six batters in the win.
Congrats to Matt and the Rays on this accomplishment.

Ubaldo Jimenez of Colorado became the Rockies' first pitcher to throw a no hitter when he blanked the Atlanta Braves Saturday night 4-0.
Correction: The Braves did not move to Atlanta from Boston. They moved to Atlanta from Milwaukee.
Congratulations to Ubaldo Jimenez on the no hitter.

Did Major League Baseball Cost C.C Sabathia A No-Hitter?
Ned Yost sure thinks so.
C.C Sabathia hit up on a lethal combination of pitches yesterday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Sabathia threw a one-hitter against the Pirates, but the Brewers think it should be a No Hitter. They want the score to be changed from a hit by Andy La Roche to an error on C.C Sabathia.
What do I think about that play? Think back to ten years ago, when Kerry Wood was pitching for the Astros. Wood struck out 20 batters, and was an hit away from that being a no-hitter. As Houston was Leading off the top of the third, Ricky Gutierrez hit a ground ball that deflected off of Kevin Orie’s glove and was questionably ruled a hit. Many Cubs fans thought (and still think) that should have been an error.
Regarding this play, La Roche was already very close to first base. If I was an umpire viewing that at normal speed, I also would have called it a hit.
C.C Sabathia may have been robbed of a no hitter last night by Major League Baseball, but I will be surprised if Major League Baseball changes the call and gives C.C a No Hitter.
How about Sabathia? He's 9-0 in the National League after coming over from Cleveland! Sabathia is the reason Milwaukee is the leader in the National League Wild Card race.

Jon Lester Throws No Hitter Vesus Kansas City Royals
Jon Lester Has Survived Cancer, Pitched in Game Four Of A World Series, and Now Lester has thrown a no-hitter.
Lester had nine strikeouts and walked just two men as Boston Beat Up on The Kansas City Royals 7-0.
The No Hitter would never have happened had it not been for a fantastic diving catch by Jacoby Ellsbury in the fourth inning.
Jason Varitek was behind the plate for this game. Varitek has now caught a record four no hitters. Vartitek caught no hitters from Hideo Nomo, Derek Lowe, Clay Bucholz, and Jon Lester.
Varitek took control of this game and did a great job of commanding pitches and location to Jon Lester.
I Watched the ninth inning on ESPN. They cut into the Astros-Cubs game to show the ninth. I thought Lester was in trouble when he gave up the leadoff walk, but two groundouts later, we all knew Lester was on the verge of doing something amazing.
Speaking of something amazing, I saw Kerry Wood's 20 Strikeout Game against The Astros from 1998 on ESPN Classic before the start of the Astros-Cubs game on ESPN. Both Wood and Lester has great stuff that night. Who had the better night, Wood Or Lester? I Couldn't tell you, but I enjoyed watching both of these fantastic pitching performances.

Clay Bucholz becomes first Red Sox Rookie to throw a No Hitter
Hours After Getting Called up to The Show, Clay Bucholz showed Fenway Park a Magical Night.
Clay Buchholz threw a no-hitter in his second major league start, just hours after being called up by the Boston Red Sox.
The lanky Texan baffled Baltimore with an assortment of curves, changeups and fastballs in the Red Sox's 10-0 victory Saturday night. He struck out nine, walked three and hit one batter before the 371st straight sellout crowd at Fenway Park.
The crowd stood through the entire ninth inning, cheering every pitch and taking pictures of the young righty in his windup and as he paced around the mound between pitches. A groan rose from the stands when Corey Patterson hit a line drive to center with one out, but Coco Crisp easily moved over to catch it.
Buchholz started Nick Markakis with a ball, then went ahead 2-1 when the batter fouled one off with a check swing. The crowd grew even louder, the flashes were constant, and Buchholz threw a 77 mph curveball that Markakis watched go by.
Home plate umpire Joe West hesitated, but catcher Jason Varitek rose from his crouch to run to the mound. The rest of the Red Sox soon joined him there.
No one stopped cheering until Buchholz appeared on the centerfield scoreboard for a television interview, and the fans hushed to try to hear him. But when "Clay Buchholz, No-hitter" appeared on the message board, the ballpark erupted anew.
Buchholz, who turned 23 on Aug. 14, pitched the third no-hitter of the season - following Mark Buehrle of the Chicago White Sox against Texas on April 18 and Justin Verlander of Detroit against Milwaukee on June 12.
Buchholz became the 17th rookie to throw a no-hitter. The last one to do it was Florida's Anibal Sanchez against Arizona last Sept. 6.
The Boston newcomer became the third pitcher since 1900 to throw a no-hitter in his first or second major league start, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Bobo Hollomon did it in his first start on May 6, 1953, for the St. Louis Browns at home against the Philadelphia A's, and Wilson Alvarez did it in his second start on Aug. 11, 1991, for the Chicago White Sox at Baltimore.
Buchholtz nailed down his no-hitter a night after Scott Baker of the Twins came within three outs of a perfect game and two outs of a no-hitter against Kansas City.
I watched the final out of the No Hitter on ESPN. They had cut out of College Football to show the final out, and that backdoor curveball was the pitch that sealed the no hitter for Clay Bucholz. Simply a sensational job by the kid in his second Major League Start. Joe Castiglione on Red Sox Television said "He has been changing his pitches all day long. That's why he been unhittable." What a thrill for Clay Bucholz. This is a night he will remember for the rest of his life.
