The 2009 NHL Winter Classic was an epic battle which saw the Detroit Red Wings defeat the Chicago Blackhawks 6-4 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

A Historic New Year's Day

Happy New Year Everyone! I am excited by what 2009 has to bring, especially with the first day of 2009!

In College Football, we have the Outback Bowl, Gator Bowl, Capital One Bowl, Rose Bowl, and the Orange Bowl today.

At 1PM EST today, Wrigley Field makes even more history as it hosts a Hockey Game for the first time ever. The defending Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings will face off against the Chicago Blackhawks in a matchup of two of the "Original Six" NHL teams.


Then At 6PM EST, Our National Pastime gets their own 24 hour network. The MLB Network will launch with a one hour edition of Hot Stove Live followed by Don Larsen's Perfect Game in the 1956 World Series. This is the first time the game has been shown on Television in it's entirety since the event.

Joey Gathright Heading To Wrigley Field

The Chicago Cubs have not found a Swattin' Southpaw yet, but they did sign a Speedin' Southpaw.

The Cubs signed former Kansas City and Tampa Bay Outfielder Joey Gathright to a one year contract.


Gathright has speed, and he can use it to beat out infield singles and steal many bases. I think the Cubs will end up putting him in Center Field with Reed Johnson, allowing Felix Pie to fine tune his skills in the Minor Leagues.

The Cubs are still looking for a left handed outfielder with some pop, and they are looking at former Texas Ranger Milton Bradley.

On a second note...

I am glad the Chicago Cubs did not get Jake Peavy. It was obvious from the start that San Diego was asking too much to get him, and we were walking a tightrope as we were trying to get three or four teams to make a deal for us to land Peavy. Jake is a great pitcher, but I firmly believe that his numbers are inflated due to him playing inside the ultimate Pitcher's Park, PetCo Park. I do not think Jake would have done as well in Wrigley Field.

Hopefully our regular rotation gets the job done this season.

Wrigley Field Will Become "The Frozen Confines" New Year's Day

Wrigley Field Is About to Freeze Over.
The NHL Liked the idea of an outdoor hockey game so much this year, they're doing it again next year.

On January 1,2009, the 2nd edition of the Annual Outdoor Game will go to Wrigley Field. The Chicago Blackhawks will play the Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings.

The game will start at noon CT and will be broadcast on NBC.

This is a great idea that the NHL is using to get more fans. I think I'll be in front of the TV to watch it simply because I love Wrigley Field and I'm intrigued to see how it would be turned into a Hockey Venue.

If Hell Dosen't Freeze over in October with the Cubs winning the World Series, Wrigley will Freeze over the following January with the hometown Blackhawks facing off against the Stanley Cup Champion Red Wings.

There was no need for Cubs fans to choke today as The Cubs beat the Mets 8-1 to Complete a two game sweep of the New York Mets. The win increased Chicago's division lead to 1.5 games over the St Louis Cardinals.

Diehard Cubs Fans Name Son Wrigley Fields

CHICAGO — His parents say he can go by his middle name when he's old enough to decide.


For now, the newborn will be known by his first name: Wrigley.


And his last name: Fields.


His parents are Paul and Teri Fields of Michigan City, Ind. They are — no surprise — fans of the Cubs, who have played at Wrigley Field since 1916. The Fields planned the name for years before their son's birth.


Wrigley Alexander Fields was born Sept. 12 at an Indiana hospital.


Cubs spokeswoman Katelyn Thrall said the name may be a first. The team has no record of other children named Wrigley, although there have been some children names Zambrano and Ryne after Cubs stars Carlos Zambrano and Ryne Sandberg.

September Baseball at it's finest. The Cubs are in first place in the NL Central, up by 3.5 games by the slumping Brewers, and now the news that Wrigley now belongs to a member of the Fields Family. congrats to the Fields Family on the birth of their son, Wrigley Fields.
