Week Seventeen NFL Preview

In The Final Regular Season NFL Preview, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots chase perfection Saturday Night against Michael Strahan and the New York Giants.

Welcome to the final NFL Preview of 2007. It is the final regular season week for football, and there are a couple of teams who will know if they are in or out of the playoff picture by the end of this week.

SATURDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL: PATRIOTS AT GIANTS 8:15 PM EST(THE GAME OF THE WEEK)
Already the first team to go 15-0 in a regular season, New England now tries to join the 1972 Miami Dolphins as the only teams to take an unbeaten record into the playoffs. Miami went 14-0 that season and won the Super Bowl, but this year's Dolphins could not spoil the Patriots' perfect run last Sunday and lost 28-7 at Foxborough.

New York (10-5) is locked into the No. 5 seed in the NFC and might want to rest some starters because it does not have a first-round bye. The Giants will visit Tampa Bay in a wild-card game next weekend.

No opponent has had a good answer defensively for the Patriots, whose 551 points leave them needing just six to break the league's single-season record set by the 1998 Minnesota Vikings. The only time New England failed to total more than 20 points or 300 yards of offense came two weeks ago against the New York Jets in horrendous weather conditions, but there is no rain, snow or strong wind in the forecast for Saturday.

A clear night would only make things easier on Brady, Moss and New England's vaunted air attack. Single-season league records are in sight for both Pro Bowlers, with Brady needing two touchdown passes to break Peyton Manning's record of 49 and Moss two TD receptions away from surpassing Jerry Rice's record of 22.

Another record within the Patriots' grasp is the one for consecutive regular-season victories. They already have tied their own league record by winning 18 straight.
Tom Brady enters this game 105 yards shy of Drew Bledsoe's 1994 club record of 4,555.

This was last season's NFC Championship Game, which The Bears won. The Saints are in with a win, a Redskins loss, and a Vikings loss. If one of these teams wins, the Saints are out. Kyle Orton might be Chicago's Quarterback of the future, meaning Rex Grossman will become a Free Agent.

This is a big AFC South Matchup. Houston will be trying for their eighth win of the season. Jacksonville's In the Playoffs. Will they play their starters? If so, for how long? That will be key for Houston.

This is a big NFC South Rivalry. Carolina wants to win even if they're out of the Playoff picture. Tampa Bay is in. Will they play their starters despit the fact they will play the Giants next week in an NFC Wild Card Game? That is the question.

Buffallo is now out of the playoff hunt. Philly was never in the playoff hunt. Both teams should play their starters for the whole game.

It dosen't matter if Cleveland wins or loses, they can't control their own fate anymore. They have to hope The Colts beat Tennesee. If that doesn't happen, Cleveland's out of the playoffs.

WIll Pittsburgh play their starters? Their already in the playoffs. The Ravens should use this game to evaluate Troy Smith.

JaMarcus Russell makes his first NFL Start Sunday. Will San Diego play their starters? If So, for How long? JaMarcus Russell will be the Starter of Oakland for a long time.

If Washington wins, they're in. Dallas will play some starters for maybe a series or two. Terry Glenn will take the field for the first time this season. That will be a welcome sight for Cowboys fans. Todd Collins might get Washington to the playoffs, but Jason Campbell will get the starting job back if they make it to the playoffs.

Marc Bulger will torch Arizona's defense. Rams win.

The Vikings are in with a win and a Redskins loss. Rod Smith's NFL Career may be over, and that is terrible news for the Broncos.

Two teams that thought they would be in the playoffs at the start of the year play each other. Kansas City wins.

SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL: COLTS VS TITANS
A Big AFC South Rivalry. Marvin Harrison will be in the game, but he won't start. Colts fans and Browns fans will be very happy to hear that. If the Colts win, the Browns are in. If Tennesee wins, they're in. It's not very often that the final game of the season has so much excitement regaurdig the playoff picture, but thanks to Flex Scheduling, we get an interesting matchup for the final game of 2007.

Week Ten NFL Preview

Peyton Manning leads The Colts into San Diego to take on The Chargers.

Both of these teams are hurting at the quarterback spot. Atlanta is coming off a victory over San Francisco last week. I'll go with Carolina because they are at home, but this will be one ugly and brutal game for both sides.

Miami just can't catch a break or a win this season. Buffalo has played well
the last two weeks, and I expect it to continue here.

Pittsburgh has been on a roll and they can't be stopped. Pittsburgh wins.

This is a big AFC West matchup. Denver is coming off a 49-7 loss to the Lions. Kansas City wins.

A Big AFC South matchup. The Jags will be hurting from the suspension of John Henderson. Tennesee wins the game.

This is Adrian Peterson's first game since racking up 296 yards rushing against the San Diego Chargers. Green Bay has played well enough to be at the top of the NFC North, with Detroit slightly behind them. If Minnesota does well on the ground, they win the game.

A Big NFC East Rivalry. The Eagles really have nothing to play for since they are theoretically eliminated from the playoff hunt. Washington wins.

The Saints are on a roll. After losing their first four games, they have won their last four to get back to a respectable .500. The Saints will now get above .500, as they will keep the Rams winless.
NEW ORLEANS OVER ST. LOUIS

Cincinnatti at Baltimore 4:05 PM EST
Two AFC North teams who will play hard because this is a divisional game, if not for anything else, as both of these teams are currently dead in the water. I go with Cincinnatti because the only team that has played more incosistently than them is the Ravens.

Chicago At Oakland 4:15 PM EST
If the Bears don't beat The Raiders, that will officially cause the Bear fans to "Wailt till next year." Chicago Sports fans just can't catch a break. The Bulls and Bears have stumbled out of the gate early and are trying to rebound. The Bears don't play an 82 game schedule like the Bulls do. The Bears are still alive, if just by a thread. That thread is gone if they lose against The Raiders.

Dallas At New York Giants 4:15 PM EST
This is a Big NFC East rivalry and the stakes are raised because the winner of this game will lead the NFC East. I'll go with The Cowboys, although they have not really had a game to prove themselves in since their loss to The Patriots. Dallas wins.

Detroit slaughtered a mediocre Broncos team 49-7. Imagine what happens when they beat an even worse Cardinals team.

SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
Indianapolis At San Diego 8:15 PM EST *THE GAME OF THE WEEK*
This is Indy's first game since their 28-24 loss to the Patriots last week. This is San Diego's first game since Adrian Peterson ran all over them for 296 yards. Both of these teams have chips on their shoulder. Both have something to prove. I think this game will come down to how well the defense responds when the other team is on the field. If San Diego cannot get pressure on Peyton Manning, they're in trouble. If Indy cannot stop LaDanian Tmlinson, they're in trouble. I'll go with Indy to win this game, but the absense of Marvin Harrison will hurt the Colts in the passing game.

A Big NFC West matchup. Both of these teams have been underperforming. I'll go with Seattle because they're at home.

Colts Beat Down Saints in NFL Season Opener, 41-10

At first glance, the score gives the impression that the game was totally one-sided in favor of Peyton Manning and the Colts, but that wasn't quite how it happened.

The Indianapolis Colts really payed attention to whatever Head Coach Tony Dungy was telling them, because three long drives later (and an interception return for a touchdown near the end of the game) Indianapolis showed New Orleans how they were able to win Super Bowl XLI last season.

Peyton Manning was just 8-of-17 for 101 yards in the first half, 66 of those yards on two completions: the 27-yard TD to Harrison, plus 39 on a throw to tight end Dallas Clark that set up Adam Vinatieri's 33-yard field goal that tied the game at 10.

The game was tied 10-10 after a sloppy first half.

But Peyton Manning led two quick TD drives in the first 8:49 of the second half as the Colts put up 24 points in 20 minutes after intermission. On the first drive, Manning hit Harrison for 42 yards to set up a 2-yard TD run by Addai. Then the Super Bowl MVP came right back to throw a 28-yard TD pass to Wayne.

The Manning-Wayne 45-yarder made it 34-10 five minutes into the fourth quarter and Matt Giordano's 83-yard interception return sealed the deal.

Indianpolis was superb defensively. They were constantly in the Dime Prevent defense and the Cover Two Defense. That's why they gave up a lot of yards on the run, but did not get burned against the pass.

One guy you really have to feel sorry for is cornerback Jason David. Here's a guy who wins the Super Bowl with the Colts, the team that drafted him, and then he leaves them to get a big payday from the New Orleans Saints. I was expecting Davud to rough up Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne, just like I'm sure he used to do in practice when he was a Colt, but, it turned out that he was the guy getting burned. You do have to give David some credit though, as he stripped the football loose and ended up taking the fumble all the way back for the game tying touchdown.

It will be tough for Indianapolis as they attempt to become the first team since the Patriots to win two consecutive Super Bowls in the 21st Century, but Indy will be tough to beat if they play all season like they did last night.
